Positives
Negatives
This is one of those books that you have to read because everyone is suddenly reading it and I felt like I was missing out. I knew it was a bit naughty but not much else about it, so I was actually surprised at how rude some bits were! At least the cover is tasteful and doesn't have anything very explicit on it "“ otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought it in the first place.
The book tells the story of a young very innocent woman called Anastasia who gets involved with a rich young man called Christian Grey (hence the title) who she meets and ends up going on a date with. After that all sorts happen (which I won't spoil or describe), he buys her lots of gifts, they do kinky stuff. There's also some drama in there as she tries to figure out what he is really like. The book is very easy to read and enjoyable "“ to be honest it is one of those 'turn your brain off' books and just enjoy it. Some of the sex scenes were quite steamy but some of them actually made me laugh and I'm not sure for the right reasons.
When I found out this is based on Edward and Bella from the Twilight books I actually started to enjoy it a bit more, as I liked those books but found the couple a little sappy and a bit tame. The book is enjoyable whichever way you want to take it "“ either you can get into the romance and the erotic side of it, or you can enjoy some of the more unintentionally funny silly bits. Personally I did a mixture of both and will probably be checking out the other parts of the trilogy.
