About Demigod

Demigod is a traditional RPG fighting game in which characters play a demigod of their own creation. A bit like World of Warcraft meets Halo, Demigod is a multi-player online game that Gamespot.com called "a pleasant mix of simplicity and complexity".

Players choose one of two types of demigods to play - an assassin, which, as it sounds, is a solo warrior focusing on independent play, or a general, a type of demigod which has the ability to summon supporting minions. There are four types of assassins and four types of generals, and each of these can be further customized to create a truly unique demigod character, spending skill points to specialize the character even further, not unlike the possibilities offered in World of Warcraft.

Considering the wide number of possibilities when it comes to the demigod character itself, it is more than a little disappointing to have only eight arenas to explore and do battle in. Nonetheless, despite the seeming lack of creativity when it came to designing the arenas, the battle scenes themselves are fun and full of awesome graphics and audio effects. The graphics are convincing, bright, and really draw players into the world.

Another area in which demigod falls short is its lack of backstory. Given the fact that players are playing gods battling it out, one might think that there'd be more substance and background to the story behind demigod, thus further pulling players into the fantasy. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The background story is not nearly as developed as it could be or perhaps should be, leaving players who like that aspect of play feeling like something is lacking. Still, demigod is not a puzzle or mystery game, but an RPG multi-player battle game, so perhaps the lack of background story won't bother most players who decide to give this game a try.

When Demigod first came out, connecting peer-to-peer with other players to fight was a long, slow, laborious process. Since then, things have gotten better, but it remains a complaint that many players still have. Some players disappointed with the game initially stated that it takes longer to find someone to play against than it does to actually play the game.

The final verdict? When it comes right down to it, for people who like RPG fighting games, Demigod is a fun twist on a familiar theme, with plenty of customization options to play around with, keeping the game entertaining for a long time. However, the "familiar theme" of Demigod is almost a little too familiar; players who have played Warcraft's Defense of the Ancients will find themselves wondering if Demigod developers have just stolen a page out of Warcraft's play book, xeroxed it, and renamed it "Demigod."
